Popcorn Ceiling Removal & Refinishing
Popcorn and acoustic ceilings make a room look dated and collect dust. RDS removes them with careful prep and cleanup, then refinishes the ceiling smooth or with a light modern texture.
A cleaner, brighter ceiling
Removing popcorn texture is messy work, so most of the job is preparation. We cover floors, walls, and fixtures, contain the work area, and protect the rest of your home before any scraping starts.
Once the texture is off, the ceiling underneath usually needs attention — tape seams show, and gouges or old repairs appear. We repair and skim the surface so the new finish looks even, then apply either a smooth finish or a light texture, depending on what you prefer.
Many popcorn ceilings were applied decades ago, and some older materials can contain asbestos. If your home was built before the 1980s, testing before removal is strongly recommended. We'll talk through this with you during the estimate.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I test my popcorn ceiling for asbestos?
If your home was built before the 1980s, testing is strongly recommended before any removal. We can talk through the next steps during your estimate.
Can I stay in the house during the work?
Usually yes. We contain the work area, though you'll want to avoid the rooms being worked on until cleanup is complete.
Do I have to go smooth after removal?
No. Many customers choose smooth, but we can also apply a light texture if you prefer.
What if the drywall under the popcorn is damaged?
Damage often shows up once the texture is off. We repair seams and gouges before finishing, and if sections need replacing we can install new drywall as part of the job.
